I've only recently picked up on the pattern that Thursday is a good day for deals at the Ypsi Food Co-op. Since Wednesday is both their big delivery day and a baking day, there's both cut-price Monday bread and freshly "Reduced For Quick Sale" stock available on Thursday. And if there's one thing better than the co-op's Three Seed Sourdough and soft pretzels, it's picking them up for 80% off.

(Tip: a good bread keeps longer if you don't keep it in a sealed plastic bag - exposed to air, it won't mold, just harden after several days - still good for toast, bread crumbs, etc. I just leave my co-op bread in the plastic bag, but leave the bag open.)

    Hooray for cosmically small news!

    Exciting! Very nice tip.

As for keeping bread fresh, I just buy my bread sliced (or slice it myself), freeze it, and toast as necessary. I never go through bread fast enough to keep it from going stale.

I have a breadbox, but when Beth worked at Zingerman's, the advice always was: place the loaf under a bowl on the counter, or simply place it cut side down on the counter. It does last for days that way.

I think the River Street Bakery Breads are absolutely FANTASTIC, all of them.
