The building between TC's Speakeasy and Bombadil's coffeehouse (currently housing a hair salon, and formerly also housing Glenn's book store) is going to be auctioned off on Saturday, May 19th. (Real Estate Listing)
As with everything that happens in Ypsilanti, this news could be really good or really bad. If anyone reading this has $600,000 in loose change lying around, and isn't evil, you should totally grab it.
(Disclosure: I know some people that live in this building, so personally, I'm a little concerned).
I'm going to head over for the bank and ask for a loan. I'm sure they'll be cool securing it with my pledge - "I'm good for it, I swear."
If they're for sale for $575k and going to auction, they'll probably sell for less (otherwise they'd already have sold). So $600k in loose change is probably much; you might be able to get by with, like, $450k - a much easier amount to dig out of your couch.
HA! :)
Last I heard, there was one offer made at the auction. It was below the minimum that the seller had set, but, from what I understand, it wasn't refused flat out. As I understand it, there has, since then, been a bit of back and forth between the parties... Anyway, that's the last I heard. Does anyone have more recent information?
