Hey,
Would anyone know the name and location of the Oldest cemetery in the city and townhip? My history group is looking for a project to adopt. Oh, I am open to any and all suggestions. As, future history writers and teachers thought it would be nice to save some of what we talk about :)
I don't know about absolute oldest, but you might look into the history of Prospect Park a little bit...
Thank you Murph :)
While I don't have contact information for you - I know that James Mann, a prominent local Ypsi historian would have this information. I'm guessing our own "maproomsystems" here on downtownypsi.org - and at http://www.maproomsystems.org - might also be of assistance.
Hey Briancors,
Thank You! :) I shall proceed to maproomsystems post haste--much appreciated.
:)
I would answer that question more completely, but since she's proceeding to me, I guess I'll just wait for her to get 'here'.
The party store on west michigan avenue, across from the former plasma center. That's the first cemetery location, but in theory all the bodies were vacated to prospect park.
Although their floor is awfully lumpy, I've noticed.
Hey Maproomsystems,
First, you crack me up with you phrasology :)
Second, I proceeded "here" but once "there" I was uncertain where "here" was to search ?
And I will never go in that party store again! :)
oh god. Now I know why that store always feels like I stepping into the twilight zone....
wildchild,
thanks, and as for searching my site, there isn't really any need to do so, as my cemetery work is one of the things I've not made publicly available yet. there might be some references in the blog section, which has its own search box, but probably not many.
if you have any questions you need answered, though, go here to contact me directly. I started working on a cemetery project when i moved here five years ago, pretty much finished it, then let it gather dust, and in the last two months i've begun to "resurrect" it, you might say.
as for the party store, I think their inflated beer prices and surly staff are much more frightening than the odd shinbone that might still be under the floor.
:) I know I have said this before, but your responses are a pleasure to read! I would like to get with you sometime over the spring/summer if your willing concerning the cemetery stuff. Take care.
Donna :)
donna, i've been planning on a more formal historical meetup sometime in the ever-extending near future, but have no idea when that would be. Obviously this would be something i'd cross-post to downtownypsi.org when i settle on a date.
otherwise, feel free to contact me, as i'm almost always available to meet, with my general office hours held on any weekday, from 4-7 pm, at the tap room, as that's when their tall boys are only two bucks a pop.
Early in the week would be better, as I know the bartender those days, and can sometimes get away with giving her cigarette coupons as a tip.
Hey maproomsystems,
Thanks for willing to share your info. Your on and the first tallboy's on me :) How does May7th work for you? Around 5:45 p.m.? I have NEVER been to the Taproom and understand I am missing out on genuine ypsi culture :) If the doesn't work I am free on the 10th and 11th and am not yet sure of the following week-my schedule seems to alter way to often ha!
donna :)
yes, i think i could be there on monday the 7th, a bit before 6.
of course, now that you've given out this information publicly, we can expect there to be an assassination attempt on one or both of us. I'd wear kevlar.
and as for "Sharing" information, obviously I can only share that which I know, and which has also been formally declassified for public consumption. I'd personally like to know a few more details about this "history group" you're a part of, but that's something we can talk about in detail at the tap room.
finally, as reference, here's a photo so that you'll know who to look for once you get there:

see you then.
See you on the 7th
Awww, it's like downtownypsi.org's very first personal ad!
yeah, discussing the internment of cadavers really brings people together.
Hey Murph,
You are totally welcome to come as well-I always figure the more the merrier :)But you will be talking historic sites and cemeteries -Sounds fun:) I will buy the first round! If maprooms isn't shy I would be happy for everyone to come out so I can meet you all--you know, place faces to the superb prose :) Maybe a first meeting to talk about the as of yet unformed bookclub!! :)
Donna :)
