Welcome to a new, more interactive version of downtownypsi.org.

    Why the change?
What was wrong with the last version?
    What does this mean?

I decided that while the blog format of the earlier incarnation of downtownypsi.org was nice, but it didn't deliver the level of interactivity and transparency that I was hoping for.

I want this site to be a resource and meeting place for anyone that would like to be involved—without the defined structured/roles of "the blog author" and "the blog responder". While the previous blog was working decently, I feel that this new discussion-based format will work even better, to afford more activity and interaction between users.

I also wanted a format that was simple in design, and could also deliver RSS feeds to people on every level of the site—be it all discussions in all categories, discussions in a certain category, or even down to the level of individual, specific postings that have been made.

This fits the bill on all counts!

So, how do you get involved?

    1. Up in the right-hand corner of this page you are reading, it probably says right now that you are not signed in. Just next to that, click on (Sign In/Create Account).
    2. On the following page, then click on the yellow-shaded "Create an account!" button underneath the login fields. Fill out the form, and then submit your application.
    3. As soon as our team of administrators can approve your account, you'll be up and running. You'll get notification via e-mail when that happens.

    It's simple as that.

All we ask is that you post your content in the relevant categories that are already created. If you want to make a suggestion for a new category, or leave feedback, use the "Site News & Suggestions" section.

Please keep it civil. Debate is fine. Berating someone is not. That's not to say there won't be times when people disagree—and that's fine. This is meant to be a place for enjoyable and constructive discussion. It's not a place for "smack-talking".

Thanks again for your continued interest here. We really and sincerely hope that you'll take the time to post here and get to know others via this website. I myself have made some great acquaintances through blogging and electronic publishing in Ypsi—and it's our hope that this more open, discussion-based format will allow others to do the same.

    With all that said, enjoy!

  1.

    Thanks Brian!

I read the other site regularly but did not like that only certain people could post to it. This is way cooler!

You bet. Please let others know, and encourage them to participate, as well.

    Thanks for signing on.

I like your new format, Brian-- It reminds me of the detroityes.com message forum, which I enjoy very much. Hopefully, you can get a enough people posting and/or starting threads of discussion-- The one about local housing is a good one, judging by the number of comments... All in all, a good idea, and I wish you luck!

Thanks, Rob! I've always really wanted this to be a place where anyone who wishes can communicate. The fact that you started up an account and got active here proves to me that this is a good thing to want, and even a better thing that I made this change.

Keep coming back, and please contribute as well. That's what it's here for!

What happened to the old content?

The content from the old blog is still around. That was in WordPress, however—a different application than the one running the new version of the site.

I'll try to figure out a good way to move everything over to this new version of the site—but please do stick around with this new format, that allows anyone to have a voice, and post new content of their own.

Brian - this incarnation of dty.org is wider than any other page I regularly visit, meaning i have to do a ton of scrolling between the "Latest Discussions" sidebar and actually reading the comments. Is it possible to do some horizontal scrunching?

Any progress on getting those old posts moved over, Brian? I'd like it if they were somewhere online that people could find.
