Just saw this in the Ann Arbor News today...

Police say UPS driver stole from packages

Ypsilanti Police are seeking charges against a UPS driver accused of embezzling a significant number of computer and electronic items from intended deliveries over the last eight years.

Detective Sgt. Troy Fulton said the employee, who he would not name, was a long-time driver for the company, which has a customer center on Mansfield Street in the city.

Fulton said UPS investigators identified the driver and interviewed him. He said the man made statements to UPS, but did not confess to police.

Police turned over their investigation to prosecutors today. A UPS spokeswoman would not comment on the case.

Since it's related by default, I just wanted to say that I sell on eBay and thus need to ship things very often, and am of the opinion that the Downtown Ypsilanti Post Office has some of the nicest and most pleasant staff you could ever hope for.

I'm not sure why some people prefer UPS, but the experiences I've had have all been negative (including drivers trying to make me take packages for neighbors who I don't even know, so that they can mark it 'delivered').

Regardless, if you have something to ship and have never tried out 'old reliable', I strongly encourage you to head down Adams Street and give them a chance.

I've had a lot of issues with UPS lately, myself—and sadly, some people just demand to use them.

And I totally echo Brett's sentiments about the USPS Branch on Adams in downtown Ypsi. Excellent staff, truly helpful, and genuinely friendly and happy to see you.

I am ashamed to admit, after spending 3.5 years of my adult life in Ypsilanti, and the last year within a few blocks of the downtown post office, I did not realize it existed until reading it on this website. Any time I've had to go to the post office in Ypsi, I've driven out to the new one on Whittaker.

If you can make the hours of the downtown Post Office Service Center (it's not technically a full blown Post Office like the the one in the Twp.) I also second their service. Very convenient to walk to or drop a letter off while on the way driving out of town. They're always pleasant (even to rude people) and will answer the seemingly dumbest question without making you feel dumb.

Having said that, the new P.O. in the Twp. has pretty good service too if you can stomach the afternoon traffic coming from 94 (it's pretty bad).

I'll second the service at the downtown post office. They were very helpful when I shipped a guitar to Australia a few weeks ago.

i'll also echo re: the downtown post office. i love it so much-- the folks there make me seriously excited to go there, which i do regularly. gh has our po box there... but i always want an excuse to go up to the counter because the women are so super nice and funny and helpful. it was so exciting last year when they'd come out to the downtown farmer's market-- i felt so honored, and it was fun to see them not behind the counter.
