hi...i'm new at this and not at all tech savvy.
i saw discussion on what people are reading.
i'm reading _the essential agrarian reader_
i highly suggest it. it has articles by david orr, vandana shiva, and wendell berry (and more)
actually, i just found out about this site from bri cause i'm trying to start a discussion group...only i wanna do the kind where we meet in person and talk (i don't like typing).
i just started talking about this today and already have a few takers.
i read slow and type slow and like most people i am very busy.
but i feel dialog is very important. currently i have been interested in local economics, urban plannning, and gardening (especially as the relate to combating globalization and environmental degradation.
so if you are interested in discussing this idea futher please let me know.
Terry:
Thanks for joining up here - and do please spread the word to others!

The discussion sounds similar (but not exactly the same) as the Ypsi sustainability group (www.sustainableypsi.org). If you haven't already, you may want to check them out.
Dude, I just read that a month or so ago! Good stuff.
Are you more interested in a "let's all read the same book and discuss" type of group, or the "let's all read different books and discuss" type of group, or the "let's just discuss" group?
And yes, do look at SustainableYpsi.org.
And vote - Vote - VOTE for your favorite name for the Ypsilanti Local Currency!!! We need input! Thanks for the mention of Sustainable Ypsi.
Whoot, thanks for the sustainableypsi link!
I have been thinking about books that really make an impact. Hmmm... just was wondering if you were forced to chose two books to save, all else would perish...what would you chose?
1. Jane Jacobs, Death and Life of Great American Cities.
2. varies, but at the moment probably Michael Pollan, The Omnivore's Dilemma.
But really, we should each pick a *different* two books to save, so that we can then get together and swap. (Maybe we could memorize them, and recite them to each other in the woods?)
HAHAHAHA!! Oh, my God are you funny!! :) Thank you for cracking me up while am writing my term papers!! I have read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and loved it! But, I shall take your wise council and chose two different books!! :)
In my undereducated and overly romantic opinion Charles Dickens’s "David Copperfield" must be saved, so I am dibbing this one. So, when we are in the woods swapping our tomes in our apocalyptic book club we can have a good laugh and a good cry!! :)
Second book I will cheat and wait to see what others chose before I constrain myself
--hahaha
:)
Ok, I am not know for patience so I shall chose my final book; "Fahrenheit 451" in deference to Murph. If we shall all become the books, than I should chose the manual! hahaha :)
Anyone else going to save a couple of books? :)
LOL, I'm saving Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg.
Lisele,
Would you tell me how to make those links like you, they are SO helpful and I am clueless!! haha :)
It's the second button from the right above the typing area. Just highlight the words you want to be the link -- here's something I like -- and then click on that button (world graphic with chain link) and paste in the website address.
Thank you!! You are awesome and I loved the link of the Blue Jay. I can not think of a really cool link right this second, but when I do I SO hope you check it out :)
Thanks again :)
