Hello All,
DPW Director Bill Bohlen has asked that all downtown residents, employees and business owners who will be parking downtown tonight past 12 midnight park in the South Huron Lot (aka Smith Furniture Lot). This is the city parking lot south of Michigan Avenue between Huron and Washington Street. The S. Huron lot has been cleaned out fairly well. DPW may be working past 2 AM, the deadline previously given, so this notice will apply until the start of normal business hours on Tuesday morning.
DPW will begin plowing and removing snow from the N. Huron, Adams St. and N. Washington Lots (city owned portions only) at midnight tonight and work for most of the early morning. They will be bringing in a lot of equipment and potentially be hauling snow away by dump truck. Getting these lots completely free of cars will allow DPW to do the best job possible. If for some reason you are unable to move your car to the S. Huron Lot, please park your car in an already plowed parking space. It is DPW’s goal to have lots completely free of cars, so please only use the non-S. Huron lots as a last resort.
On-street parkers should go to the S. Huron lot as well. DPW will be cleaning out on-street parking areas and hauling away snow with front-end loaders and dump trucks. Having these areas free of cars will be critical to ensuring downtown sidewalks are safe and ensuring that these parking spaces (which are highly utilized by customers and thus are highly value by downtown business owners), are properly cleaned out and put back into full use.
If you are a downtown resident or work downtown tonight past 12 midnight, please pass this message on to your neighbors and co-workers to ensure we get as much compliance as possible.
Thank you,
Brian Vosburg
DDA Director
