Last year, at about this time, my friend Karen and I started working on a Buy Local for the Holidays campaign in Ypsi. Karen's gone now, but I'd like to keep the campaign going. (Actually, I think it could grow a lot this time, if we start working through neighborhood associations.) I posted something about it on my site last night. You can read it here:

If it sounds like something you'd be interested in helping out with, just let me know. We'll probably get together for a meeting in a week or two to work out the details.

So, any new thoughts on this? VG Kids and Queen of Hearts need to be added, and Mother Fletchers probably needs to be removed. Is that anything else?

Fast Eddie's would need to be updated with their new address, and a couple places (Aubree's, Cady's Corner BrewCo) should probably be added to the refreshments list out of fairness and all.

How much interest have you seen in this so far?

I think I remember seeing you mention on your blog that you'd like to ramp up around the time of SAF, but one idea that might counter that a bit came to mind - the shopping season really ramps up right around Thanksgiving, and it'd be really nice if we could at least have people aware of this campaign before they go on autopilot and hit the big box stores in their post turkey-coma haze.

This post brought to you in part by the run-on sentence.

You're right, Katy, it should be up and running by Thanksgiving. I'll post something new about it on my site today or tomorrow and we'll see if there are any more suggestions for edits. (Thanks for yours, by the way.) I don't think it'll be too much of a problem to get a new flyer. And, this year, the neighborhood assosiations have agreed to help with the distribution. All that we need to do is figure out a way to pay for printing, etc. (Linette said she would volunteer her design services.)

If anyone knows of a computer person willing to help, it would be cool if we could get a site where people could sign on to a Buy Local for the Holidays pledge.

    Antiques:
    + Materials Unlimited

    Clothing:
    + Studio Glamour Fashions
    - Cali Look Nails & Fashion

    Gifts:
    + Simply DeVine Cards-N-Gifts (126 W. Michigan, scheduled for opening Nov 10)

    Musical Instruments:
    + Fast Eddie's Music

What about a "fitness" category? Little Ninjas and Unveiled Dance Studio on N. Huron, YPSI Studio on N. Washington all no doubt would give you a gift cert for beginning sessions.

The back of the flyer probably need some revision, for events and so forth.

I've started a wiki version of the brochure. Feel free to add to it, or create pages for the businesses that don't have them yet.
