If you live in Ypsi, your Congressman is John Dingell. As you may know, he's the Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. As such, he's likely to be the person drafting our nation’s response to global warming. For better or worse, this means that we, as his constituents, have a great deal of say as to how strong or how weak the legislation ultimately is.
As the difference between strong and weak legislation means the difference between life and death, some friends and I decided to start a website called ActDingell.com, where we could advocate for aggressive action... the kind of action necessary if we want to avoid catastrophe here on earth. We also launched a petition, which you can find here:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/encouraging-john-dingell-to-lead-on-global-warming
In the petition, we're specifically asking that Dingell push for two things in the House: 1) a commitment to at least 20% renewable energy in America by 2020, and 2) automotive fuel efficiency standards that are, at a minimum, as aggressive as those recently passed by the Senate.
So, if you're a resident of Michigan’s 15th district, please consider signing our petition. We'd love to have you onboard.
Mark, great website and great plan! I signed the petition.
Thanks, CV. I appreciate it.
Thanks Mark, I signed, too. This is something I think we also need to address in our futuring work with the city task force. I think it's vital that we plan for sustainability, particularly in terms of encouraging the relocalization of the food supply and supplementing fresh water, renewable energy, etc.
Given Dingell's position, you'd think it would be kind of natural fit for SE Michigan to be the center for Alternative Energy research and commercialization... Thanks for signing.
We just crossed the 100 signature mark. If you haven't signed yet, please do.
We're almost up to the 200 signature mark thanks to the op-ed piece that ran in the Ann Arbor News on Sunday. If you haven't seen it, you can read it online at:

And, if you agree with the main points, please consider signing.
