Hello, fellow Ypsilantians, I know it's a longshot, but I thought that I'd put the word out that the Ypsi 2020 Task Force is looking for a volunteer scribe. The ideal candidate, in addition to being bright, motivated, and interested in helping our city, would have a laptop and be able to type fairly quickly. The group meets twice a month. Each meeting is about 90 minutes long. We've been trying to keep our own minutes as we go, but, invariably, it means that one of us on the 11-person task force isn't as actively engaged as we probably should be. We were hoping that some civic-minded individual might be willing... If you're interested in trying out, let me know. Thanks. -Mark
Mark, thanks for posting this here!
If you can't find anyone, but have a few Mac laptops along, be sure to check out SubEthaEdit. Its a collaborative text editor on the Mac. Multiple people can type in the same document all at once, all through the network. I use it a lot at meeting at my day job, and its nice because everyone can scribe, and not just a single person... SubEthaEdit 2.2 is also free. The newer versions are shareware.
Good luck, and I will pass this request along to others!
Thanks for the tip, Brian, but I think I'm the only Mac guy, and I don't believe there's wireless at any of the places where we meet. It's still good to know though. I might be able to give it a shot with some other groups I'm part of.
> don't believe there's wireless
I think you can use the "Create Network..." option on the wireless dropdown, and have other people join that to use SubEthaEdit. But, again, that requires people have Macs.
Hey - I'd be willing to type up minutes, only problem is I don't have a laptop. If anyone didn't mind parting with their laptop for the length of the meeting... I think it could be do-able.
Thanks, Katy. I think that maybe something can be arranged. I'll send you an email.
Did you ever find a volunteer for this, Mark?
No, I exchaged a note or two with Kathy, but we never worked out the details. Are you volunteering too, Bonnie? It would be good if we had two people who could alternate.
It depends on which days of the week, and what time of day the meetings are (presumably evenings?). I'd like to volunteer, but I've got work, class, etc etc to schedule around, so the timing's fairly important.
If it's still first and third Mondays, in the evenings, then I could do it starting Oct 28th through the end of the year. So... yeah. Not much help, am I? :)
Heya Mark - I never got an e-mail. Perhaps it got lost in a spam filter.
I believe we may have a meeting this coming Tuesday, if either or you are interested.
OK, there is a meeting tomorrow night. It's at 7:30, at HighScope. I don't seem to have either or your email addresses, Katy or Bonnie, so hopefully one, or both of you will see this. If you'd like to serve as our recording secretary, just send me an email at markmaynard@mindspring.com and we'll work out the details... And I can probably arrange to provide a laptop during the meeting too, if necessary. Thanks.
Bonnie, if you're still up for it, we need someone for next Monday evening at 7:30. Katy, who did it last time, can't make it. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
